There is already a date! President Andrés Manuel has revealed the possible date on which train operations will begin.
The train will transport both tourists and merchandise from Veracruz to Oaxaca and will cross through Chiapas.
Train tourism has gained strength in Mexico, and only in the last months of this 2023 is the inauguration of the Mayan Train, the Interurban Train and the Interoceanic Train that will connect Veracruz with Oaxaca. When will it be inaugurated?
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has announced on August 21 the day on which the Interoceanic Train is expected to start operations, which will run from Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, to the city of Salinas Cruz in Oaxaca, thus connecting the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic.
When will the Interoceanic Train be inaugurated?
During the morning conference yesterday, the Mexican executive declared that the train is expected to be inaugurated on September 17, 2023, and during the inauguration only the section that goes from Ixtepec, Oaxaca to Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz will be enabled.
“We are committed to completing the first stage of communication on the Ismo, I hope on September 17, which is Sunday, we will take a passenger train in Salinas Cruz and get off in Coatzacoalcos,” López Obrador announced.
He also explained that the section that connects Coatzacoalcos with the Palenque will be inaugurated until the end of this year, by the month of December. This train will transport both people for tourism purposes and merchandise. There are three sections in total that contemplate the train route, the last one connects with Ixtepec Oaxaca to Ciudad Hidalgo in Chiapas. How much will it cost to travel on the Interoceanic Train?
Until now, the cost of the travel tickets on board the train has not been disclosed, so it is expected that more details will be given very soon about the inauguration, costs and the sections that the Interoceanic Train will run.
