Mexicans shine in the Down Syndrome Gymnastics World Cup

Mexicans María Bárbara Wetzel Aguilar and Helena Cárdenas Valencia shone in the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics World Cup for athletes with Down Syndrome, which takes place at the Max Sports Center in Eldoraigne, Tshwane, South Africa.

‘Bibi’ Wetzel won five medals in the Senior category, three of them gold, one in All Around, in Hands-Free Floor, and in Vault. She got the silver medal on Bars and the bronze medal on Balance Beam.

María Bárbara Wetzel Aguilar is originally from Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, and already has two world championships that she won in Italy and Germany.

Alexa Moreno congratulated what ‘Bibi’ Wetzel had done with a message on the social network X, formerly Twitter.

For her part, Helena Michelle Cárdenas Valencia, 10 years old, also won five medals, all of them gold in the Junior category.

The gymnast from Quintana Roo conquered the Floor, Horse Vault, Uneven Bars, Balance Bars, and All Around events.

Helena Cárdenas was awarded the special medal for sporting merit.
