The mandarin is a valuable citrus fruit for Mexico, and even more so at this time when it is considered one of the main items that end up being placed in the Day of the Dead offerings, this also because its production season occurs around this date in October and November.
Veracruz stands out as the main producer of this fruit in the country, since this fruit that is consumed at home is rich in vitamin C, helping to strengthen the immune system.
Its production in Veracruz lands has been reduced by inclement weather, however, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, since 2020, 21,675 hectares of mandarins have been grown in 19 states of Mexico, exceeding a production of 300 thousand tons per year, with the state of Veracruz leading the list.
In 2023, 309,740 tons of mandarin were harvested, being sent throughout the country, with this production mainly coming from the states of Veracruz, Puebla and Nuevo León.
