Construction Closes Major Streets in Veracruz’s Historic Center

In a move aimed at modernizing the historic heart of Veracruz, authorities have announced that two major streets – 5 de Mayo Avenue and Independencia Avenue – will remain closed to traffic until further notice.

The decision is part of an ongoing comprehensive renovation project for the city’s central district, which began in early April. The closure affects a significant stretch of both avenues, prompting drivers to seek alternative routes through adjacent streets that have been designated as pedestrian-friendly zones.

According to municipal authorities, pedestrians can still navigate the area by using these designated side streets:

– Esteban Morales

– Serdán

– Mario Molina

– Zamora

– Lerdo

– Juárez

– Emparan

While residents and visitors can continue to access the affected areas on foot, drivers will need to use the provided alternative routes to ensure smooth traffic flow. To facilitate this, all intersections within the closed sections of 5 de Mayo Avenue and Independencia Avenue remain open, with one exception: the intersection of Arista and Independencia.

The renovation project is expected to significantly improve traffic conditions in the historic center once completed, but for now, residents are advised to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid disruptions. The city council has assured that these measures will help minimize inconvenience while the work progresses.
