Alert for the disappearance of Karla Valencia, a trans woman, in Veracruz

246

Various groups and organizations are speaking out against the disappearance of Karla Valencia Márquez, a trans woman, in Veracruz.

Her disappearance comes amid protests over the transfemicide of Alexis Noé Velázquez Delgado, which occurred last week.

Karla, 32, has been missing since June 30, when she left work at the El Cuadrilátero bar in the municipality of Jáltipan de Morelos, Veracruz.

Organizations such as Orgullo Xalapa and independent activists have denounced the case. They are also demanding that authorities respect Karla’s identity in official proceedings.

Although the Veracruz State Search Commission issued a file with her physical information, it used her legal name assigned at birth. This is a form of misgendering that revictimizes and violates Karla.

Activists and people close to Karla point out that referring to her by her birth name, prior to her transition, is not only disrespectful, but also makes it difficult to locate her, as no one knows her by that name.

According to the search report, Karla is 1.80 meters tall, has black eyes, light brown skin, a scar on her right cheek, and several tattoos.

As mentioned above, Karla’s disappearance occurred days after the murder of Alexis Noé, a 21-year-old trans woman, was reported in Emiliano Zapata, Veracruz.

The organizations are asking the public for any information that may help locate Karla.

If you have any information, please call 228-319-3187 or call the emergency number 911.
