A man was arrested on Saturday in the municipality of Coatepec, Veracruz, after being caught walking down a street with a human head. The scene, which was captured in videos posted on social media, caused consternation among local residents.

According to the Coatepec City Council, the incident occurred in the 22 de Septiembre neighborhood, on Camino a las Haciendas Street, when Municipal Police officers intercepted the individual due to his suspicious behavior. The man was carrying a blood-stained bag, and after a search, officers confirmed that a human head was inside.

According to local media, the man was identified as Manuel “N,” known as “La Mole,” who was reported by neighbors as having a history of theft, drug use, and conflictive behavior. “La Mole” had allegedly been socializing with the victim—a man of approximately 65 years old—at a supposed party where they consumed alcoholic beverages and illegal substances.

Witness accounts indicate that the detainee was seen walking with the head in his hands, holding it by the hair, and at another point putting it in and taking it out of a bag. Some of these scenes were recorded and widely circulated on digital platforms.

Authorities indicated that, after his arrest, the man confessed to the crime and provided details about where he abandoned the head, which had been previously wrapped in a sheet.

This version was confirmed by municipal and ministerial authorities, who located the remains in different locations: the arrest took place on Constitución and Zamora streets; the head was found on Camino a las Haciendas, and the body in an area known as La Gachupina.

Despite the brutality of the case, the City Council clarified that “according to preliminary investigations, there are no elements linking this event to organized crime activities.” In that sense, it is considered an isolated incident, perpetrated by a single individual in “abnormal conditions.”

The alleged perpetrator was handed over to the competent authorities, while the Veracruz State Attorney General’s Office opened an investigation to clarify the events and determine his legal status.
