The Focal Distance Photography Festival, which will conclude on September 28, will feature special events dedicated to photojournalism this weekend with talks, workshops, and exhibitions, as well as the awards ceremony for the Focusing on the World competition, where the jury will be led by photographer Indira Williams Babic, a member of the National Geographic team.
Óscar Martínez, director of the event, announced that the festival’s guests include photographers Daniel Mendoza, Francisco Mata Rosas, Antonio Turok, Marietta Bernstorff, Alfredo Estrella, Allison Shelley, Frida Bulos, and Luis de Sandoval.
Martínez highlighted that a traveling exhibition of Women Photojournalists will be inaugurated at the Universidad Veracruzana’s Fine Arts Gallery, showcasing the works of the winners of the 2024 competition.
She also highlighted that next Monday, September 22nd, at 6:00 PM, Focal Distance will present the monumental exhibition “It’s Giant,” an open-air event at the Juárez Park viewing platform, where the public will be able to enjoy 12 large-format photographs.
And that same day, as a special activity dedicated exclusively to the work of photojournalists, the organization Article 19 will offer a workshop on safety during news coverage.
The Focal Distance Photography Festival will culminate with the awards ceremony for the Focusing on the World competition, which will award the first-place winner a Nikon Z6 camera.
Óscar Martínez noted that all activities at this photography festival are free and emphasized that for this edition of the festival, the organizers are committed to broadening their audiences by organizing activities for children, Afro-descendant and LGBT communities, as well as for photographers and photojournalists.
