Due to increased input costs such as diesel, driver wages, and spare parts, the cost of transporting construction materials like gravel, sand, and hydraulic asphalt, among others, will rise during 2026; however, an updated price list is not yet available.
In an interview with El Sol de Orizaba, Miguel Cocotle Juárez, vice president of the Union of Road Workers of the High Mountains, explained that transporting materials to downtown Zongolica, from the municipality of Atlahuilco, currently costs 6,000 pesos, a price that varies depending on the destination and the quantity of material transported.
He stated that the minimum increase would be 500 pesos or more. He indicated that the new price list will be available in March, prior to the start of municipal construction projects.

Finally, he indicated that the most frequent shipments are of gravel, sand, and asphalt for the rehabilitation of federal highways, as well as for the construction of private homes, a sector that didn’t exist before, since trucks were previously hired from Orizaba. However, the presence of cargo trucks in the mountains has boosted employment for drivers in the region.
