The Gulf Corridor project has two options for building the new bridge that will connect Veracruz with Tamaulipas. The proposed structure avoids the urban area encompassing the municipalities of Tampico, Ciudad Madero, and Altamira, in order to connect with highways leading to the central and northern parts of the state.

The federal government is conducting the studies, which will be delivered in the coming months, to determine the most viable mobility option, primarily for freight transport, stated the Secretary of Public Works for the state, Pedro Cepeda Anaya. This is part of a larger plan with a cost exceeding 30 billion pesos.

“One of the options the federal government is considering is to build it over the toll bypass. The second option is to cross the lagoon system through Altamira and construct the bridge that connects it to the highway toward González. This way, it will avoid the urban area of any of the municipalities,” he explained. The financing for these projects is part of the Comprehensive Plan for 10 municipalities in eastern Tamaulipas.

This facility is not only included in the agenda of this strategy, which will modernize the federal highway network, connecting Nuevo Laredo with the southern part of the state and the Gulf Coast, as well as the central region of the country, but it also complements other upcoming projects authorized by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT).

These projects include the expansion of the Victoria-Zaragoza section, the construction of the El Mante bypass, which will connect to the Mante-Tula-Ocampo highway, and the elevated viaduct in Tampico. Additionally, 2.5 billion pesos have been earmarked for maintenance.

“The projects are being finalized to determine which of the two routes is the best alternative. The Federal Government is in charge and will deliver the results this year so that construction can begin. We will start the initial work on the elevated viaduct during the second half of the year,” Cepeda Anaya stated.

Meanwhile, at the recent meeting with the Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry (CMIC), it was reported that more than 4 billion pesos will be allocated to state and ejido routes, in addition to the completion of the Judicial City in Ciudad Victoria.
