The Barrio Mágico of Xallitic, in Xalapa, will celebrate its third anniversary as the only Barrio Mágico in the state of Veracruz with four days of music, dance, gastronomy, workshops, and cultural activities. The celebration began this Thursday, August 20, and will continue through Sunday, August 23, with free activities for residents of the capital of Veracruz and visitors.
Xallitic received its designation as a Barrio Mágico on August 17, 2023, becoming the first in Veracruz to receive this distinction. The celebration therefore also seeks to bring people closer to the history and traditions of this site in Xalapa’s Historic Center.
The program will take place in this traditional neighborhood and will combine performances with spaces dedicated to gastronomy and entrepreneurship. During the four days, there will also be exhibitors from Xico, Coatepec, Naolinco, and Papantla, as well as local merchants and entrepreneurs from Xalapa.
What will there be in Xallitic from August 20 to 23?
The celebration will begin on Thursday, August 20, with the activity “Baila esta cumbia” from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The event is free and has more than two decades of tradition, bringing together families and visitors every week to dance.
On Friday, August 21, the celebration will continue with one of the central moments of the anniversary. At 6:30 p.m., the official opening declaration will take place with the presence of municipal and state authorities. A surprise intervention on the walls of the Xallitic bridge is also planned as part of the official opening.
For those wishing to attend during the weekend, the program includes:
- Saturday, August 22: The day will begin at 12:00 p.m. and will feature pre-Hispanic dance, a demonstration danzón class, traditional regional music, a medieval music performance by Festa Antigua, the Tuna Mayor of Xalapa, and electronic music performances. Activities will continue until 9:00 p.m.
- Sunday, August 23: Family activities will begin at noon, including a clown show. Around 4:00 p.m., there will be an afternoon of danzón with the Flauta Nueva orchestra.
Beyond the performances scheduled for each day, the anniversary will feature activities available throughout all four days. These include workshops, food stands, a craft exhibition, and spaces for entrepreneurs, allowing visitors to find different offerings while exploring the neighborhood.
The celebration also seeks to strengthen Xallitic’s connection with the people of Xalapa. According to the City Council, the goal is for both residents and tourists to discover this space, participate in its activities, and contribute to preserving its heritage.
After three years as a Barrio Mágico, Xallitic reaches this anniversary as a tourist and cultural landmark of Xalapa.
