Merida, Yucatan.- Complaints have been made through social networks in which they point to poachers who take advantage of the quarantine and the null presence of people in the streets to go out to the jungle to hunt Pumas, an animal that is in danger of extinction.
According to the data collected in social networks, would-be hunters who carry out this activity in Tixkokob Yucatan and whose photographs posted appear to be foreigners of a “non-verified picture”
Due to the contingency, experts point out that these animals leave the jungle due to the low human presence, which is used by hunters who go near the archaeological zones of Aké, which is cared for by a family originally from Cacalchén headed by a man identified as Vicente Vera López.
Among the various publications, Network users point out that the family with the last name Caamal is dedicated to this work and that every day they go out to the bush to hunt deer and cats. Similarly, they denounced a man who nicknamed him “Calach” for going out to hunt the cats to sell its fur.
A year ago Semarnat supported hunting of protected species
Activists and organizations denounce the hunting of endangered species such as cougars and jaguars promoted by the company Tankab Outfitters, which offers hunting tours to foreign tourists, sparking outrage on social networks.
Images were released where several people are doing hunting activities for protected species organized by Tankab Outfitters, a company that organizes tours for foreigners in biosphere reserves in the Yucatan Peninsula.
The company assured through its official Facebook page that they have all the permits granted by the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat), and that their hunting tours are perfectly legal.
The inhabitants of the area exhibited the company and its activities, denouncing that the species that are hunted are threatened, such as the armadillo, the hocofaisán, the cojolite, temazates deer, and endangered species such as jaguars and pumas.
In social networks, the organization Red Climática Ecológica Ambiental México denounced that the company Tankab Outfitters is hunting in the Yucatan Peninsula Tucanes, Deer, Jaguars, Pumas and many protected and endemic species of the Peninsula
Activists have launched a petition on the Change.org platform, demanding the revocation of licenses for Tankab Outfitters, in addition to penalizing owners for hunting threatened and endangered animals; and not to grant permits of this nature to any company that intends to profit from endangered species.
In the same petition, it is stated that these licenses granted by Semarnat were granted due to the alleged closeness of the Governor of the state of Yucatan, Mauricio Vila Dosal, with the owners of the company, allegedly foreigners.
According to data from the National Forestry Commission (Conafor) and the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (Conanp), 60% of the fires in the reserves are caused by poachers.
