MEXICO CITY — A top official from the Mexican government went to Washington D.C. to continue the dialogue between both countries. The visit gives continuity to the visit of the Mexican president to the White House last summer.

The head of Mexico’s North American office, Roberto Velasco, visited Washington, D. C. last week to meet with U.S. business lobbyists and officials.

Velasco met with the senior vice president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, senior advisers to the US Senate and the House, as well as with representatives from the Department of Homeland Security, among others.

The meetings were part of a current effort between both nations to define coordinated strategies to face the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as regional security and economy.

It is not confirmed if the meeting addressed current relevant affairs, such as the arrest and extradition of Salvador Cienfuegos, a former Mexican secretary of defense for alleged drug trafficking,

Velasco did not meet with the incoming administration since the Mexican president has still not recognized the electoral victory of Joe Biden.
