Sectur announces the second edition of the “Race for Moctezuma’s Fish”

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced that the second edition of the “Race for Moctezuma’s Fish” will take place from November 4 to 6 of this year.

He indicated that after the success achieved in its first edition in 2020, now the objective will be to position the route for tourism, both nationally and internationally.

He added that in this event, which is integrated with a pedestrian, cycling, and walking race, in a route of 271 kilometers of the 403 kilometers that the route has, greater participation is expected than that registered in 2020, as many thousand took part, 700 competitors, from twenty states of the Mexican Republic and countries such as Canada, the United States, Spain, Argentina, Germany, and France, who left an economic spill of 26 million pesos.

The head of the Sectur specified that municipal, state, and federal authorities are also involved in this event; the Secretariat of Public Education; Otomi, Nahua, and Totonac communities; National Guard; National Institute of Anthropology and History; and the Altius company.

“The Moctezuma Fish Route is part of the Mexico Reborn Sustainable strategy, which is part of the Roads of the Mexican Renaissance project, which seeks to implement tourist circuits of social welfare and harmony with nature, strengthening the biocultural identity”, he stated.

This route passes through six states: Veracruz, Puebla, Tlaxcala, Hidalgo, the State of Mexico and Mexico City; 31 municipalities; eight Magical Towns: Papantla and Zozocolco, in Veracruz; Cuetzalan, Zacatlán and Chignahuapan, in Puebla; Tlaxco, in Tlaxcala; and San Martín de las Pirámides and San Juan Teotihuacán, in the State of Mexico.

In addition, it includes five UNESCO-designated World Heritage Sites: El Tajín archaeological zone; the ritual of the Voladores; Aqueduct of Father Tembleque; Teotihuacan; and the Templo Mayor of the Historic Center of Mexico City; as well as the Center for Indigenous Arts, a place recognized by Unesco for the conservation of best practices; and five different ecosystems.

Secretary Torruco Marqués recalled that the route is inspired by the legend of the Painanis, who brought fresh fish to Emperor Moctezuma in Tenochtitlan, from the coasts of Veracruz.

Finally, he stressed that the tour allows tourists to learn about their natural, social and cultural environment, through direct experiences with the communities they visit.
