San Andrés Tuxtla is one of the paradises of the State of Veracruz, a privileged municipality located in the south of the Veracruz entity at more than 400 meters above sea level, and very close to the Port of Veracruz, less than 3 hours away by road starting from the municipality of Veracruz.
The trip offers postcards, which turn blue as you drive along the Coastal Highway of the Gulf of Mexico, which is the road that motorists must take to reach this paradisiacal place in Veracruz, which is considered the fastest route to access San Andrés Tuxtla, after a trip of 158 kilometers traveled by vehicle, in an estimated time of 2 hours and 40 minutes.
To begin the trip to this place that offers beach and jungle, Veracruz residents living in the metropolitan area should go to Adolfo Ruiz Cortines Boulevard and take this road until crossing the city of Boca del Río, continuing until reaching Paso del Toro, along Highway 180 Costera del Golfo, where you will pass through various towns such as La Laguna, La Piedra, Salinas, until you reach the municipality of Alvarado, where you pay a booth with a cost of 25 pesos, from there the next municipality that you will pass is called Lerdo de Tejada, always on the same road, and minutes away you will reach the next city called Ángel R. Cabada, from here you will see that the vegetation will become greener and the environment more humid, with landscapes where crops of cane and rivers that cross towns such as Tecolapan and Tapalapan, and in the next few minutes you will pass through the colonial city of Santiago Tuxtla and in approximately 20 minutes later you will arrive at your destination, San Andrés Tuxtla.
In the region you can enjoy the humid tropical forest, where 3,356 species of plants live, of which the majority have some use, whether food, medicinal or industrial, where 26 of the 41 endemic tree species of Mexico.
In San Andrés Tuxtla there are 139 species of mammals, which represents 30% of the entire country.
In addition, it has 565 species of birds that have their nests in the treetops that nourish the humid tropical forest of the municipality.
Approximately 220 species of migratory birds arrive from North America each year. It is one of the municipalities that has abundant insects, among which 861 species of butterflies and 133 species of dragonflies stand out.
Unfortunately, the excessive felling of trees has wiped out some species, such as the monarch butterfly, which inhabited the area until the 1980s.
It also has a great variety of reptiles, around 120 species and 46 species of amphibians.
El Salto de Eyipantla, which is one of the most visited tourist places in the state of Veracruz, is located in San Andrés Tuxtla, a movie town where Hollywood has filmed some films, such as Apocalypto, by Mel Gibson.
