National Meteorological Service (SMN) predicts that this Sunday the cold front No. 12 will move over the north and northeast of the Mexican Republic, in interaction with the polar jet currents and subtropical, and with a low pressure channel in the east and southeast of Mexican territory, they will cause very strong occasional rains in areas of Puebla, Veracruz and Chiapas; as well as heavy occasional rains in Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Hidalgo, Oaxaca and Tabasco.
Intervals of showers are also expected in Coahuila, Nuevo León and Guerrero, in addition to strong winds with gusts of 60 to 70 km/h and possible formation of whirlwinds in Chihuahua and Coahuila, as well as gusts of 40 to 60 km/h with dust devils in Nuevo León and Tamaulipas.
The mass of polar air that drives the front will cause a “northern event” with gusts of 50 to 70 km/h and waves of 1 to 3 meters high on the coast of Tamaulipas and northern Veracruz; marked drop in temperatures and a cold to very cold night environment, with frost during the early hours of Monday over the northwest, north and northeast of the country.
For its part, the entry of humidity from the Pacific Ocean will cause afternoon showers in the west, center and south of the country. Meanwhile, a low pressure channel in the Yucatan Peninsula, combined with the entry of humidity from the Caribbean Sea, will generate an interval of showers in said peninsula.
Rain forecast:
Heavy rains with very strong spots (50 to 75 mm): Puebla, Veracruz and Chiapas.
Intervals of showers with heavy occasional rains (25 to 50 mm): Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Hidalgo, Oaxaca and Tabasco.
Shower intervals (5 to 25 mm): Coahuila, Nuevo León, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Querétaro, State of Mexico, Mexico City, Tlaxcala, Morelos, Guerrero, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo.
Isolated rains (0.1 to 5 mm): Sinaloa, Durango, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Guanajuato and Nayarit.
Heavy to very heavy rains could cause reduced visibility, landslides, ponding or flooding, as well as an increase in the levels of rivers and streams.
