The eight Magical Towns of Veracruz, along with the Magical Neighborhood of Xallitic, are ready to consolidate themselves as first-class tourist destinations, said Igor Rojí, the state’s Secretary of Tourism.
The state official emphasized that the applications for these destinations have already been submitted to the federal Ministry of Tourism, meeting all the requirements to maintain their prestigious designation. He also announced an ambitious plan to classify these sites according to the tourism services they offer, with the goal of improving the visitor experience.
Rojí explained that the new categorization will not be based on the quality of the destinations, but rather on the diversity of services available in each one.
“We want tourists to know exactly what to expect. There are smaller Magical Towns, with limited hotel offerings, that will have a different category than those with large hotel chains,” he noted.
The Magical Towns of Veracruz are Coatepec, Córdoba, Coscomatepec, Naolinco, Orizaba, Papantla, Xico, and Zozocolco, while the Magical Neighborhood of Xallitic, located in Xalapa, completes the list. Each of these destinations stands out for its cultural, historical, and natural richness, attracting thousands of tourists each year.
Recently, concerns arose about the possibility of Coatepec losing its designation as a Magical Town due to security issues and the proliferation of street vendors. However, Rojí denied these reports, assuring that all municipalities have met the standards established by the federal Ministry of Tourism.
“There is no risk that Coatepec or any other destination will lose its designation. Everything is in order and ready to continue being a source of pride for Veracruz,” he stated.
