Alert issued for heavy rains in Veracruz; classes suspended

The intense rains recorded across almost all of Veracruz could cause ponding and flooding, rapid rises in rivers and streams, landslides, and mudslides.

The Veracruz Civil Protection Secretariat, which suspended school activities in its 212 municipalities, issued an alert regarding the possible effects of the rainfall.

The agency emphasized that the storm could also cause the removal of roofs, the fall of trees, advertisements, and billboards, as well as the suspension of strategic services.

Forecasts indicate that heavy to very heavy rains are expected in the state of Veracruz in the next 24 to 72 hours.

Estimated 24-hour accumulations of 10 to 30 millimeters per square meter are expected across the state, with highs that could exceed 150 millimeters per square meter.

Predominant winds are expected from the Northwest and North with speeds of 30 to 45 kilometers per hour and gusts of 55 to 70 kilometers per hour, mainly along the northern and central coasts, on Wednesday the 8th, decreasing tomorrow.
