On the first weekend of 2026, four men were decapitated at a private ranch in southern Veracruz state. Among them was Héctor Velásquez Díaz, son of Héctor Velázquez Vázquez, a former councilman from Sayula de Alemán, who was also murdered in the municipality of Acayucan in February 2020.

Although the attack triggered a large police response, no arrests have been reported, and the other men have not yet been identified.

This past Sunday, January 4, authorities were alerted to the presence of human remains at the Montecristo ranch, located in the town of Aguilera, in the municipality of Sayula de Alemán, next to the Acayucan-Salina Cruz highway.

Upon arrival, police officers confirmed that the remains were those of four men, whose heads were found on a wooden table. They then notified the relevant authorities.

Within minutes, the ranch was secured by more than a dozen members of the Mexican Army, the National Guard, and the state police, who granted access to ministerial agents and forensic experts to carry out their investigation.

Authorities have the ranch under siege for the removal of the human remains, amidst a heavy police presence. An investigation has been opened, and the primary line of inquiry suggests it may be related to a conflict between criminal groups.
