According to court documents, the events occurred while the woman was living in the Mexican state of Veracruz, where she and another person participated in recording videos depicting the sexual abuse of a minor.
The US government agency also reported that in one of the videos, the victim attempted to escape but was restrained by Anika.
Authorities became aware of the case after detecting the circulation of such materials online, which allowed them to launch the corresponding investigation.
The announcement was made by federal authorities, including representatives from the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the agency in charge of the investigation.
FBI offices in Mexico City and Washington also participated in the investigation.
“The FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force investigated the case. The FBI’s Mexico City Police Attaché’s Office and the FBI’s Washington Regional Office provided valuable assistance,” the statement said.
Authorities indicated that the process is part of a strategy to combat child sexual exploitation called Project Safe Childhood.
