Victoria Yadira Pacheco León, president of the “Bruno al Rescate” foundation, announced that the first “Pet Lovers” charity race was held on Tuesday, March 31st, an event designed to promote responsible pet adoption and ownership.
During the event, the organization participated by bringing 10 dogs available for responsible adoption, although they currently have a total of 30 dogs waiting for a home.
Pacheco León explained that, for the moment, the shelter is “full,” so they are not carrying out new rescues until they manage to reduce the population through successful adoptions.
“We take great care to maintain a balance, ensuring they have adequate space, good food, and cleanliness. It’s not healthy to keep them crowded together,” she noted.
At the event, in addition to promoting adoption, the foundation received donations and prepared the space to guarantee the comfort of the pets, setting up tents and artificial turf to protect them from the heat and provide them with a suitable environment.
Adoption Requirements
The association uses a careful process to ensure successful adoptions:
Complete an adoption application.
Make at least three visits to the shelter to bond with the chosen pet.
A home visit is conducted before the adopter’s adoption.
A 15-day trial period is required before signing the final agreement.
This method, explained Pacheco León, has allowed for more than 30 successful adoptions since the foundation was formally established a year ago, an anniversary they will celebrate on April 11.
All available dogs are given away healthy and vaccinated; those over six months old are already spayed or neutered, while younger puppies are given with a promise of sterilization.
If any animal is undergoing medical treatment, it will not be put up for adoption.
Finally, the president called on the community to join the cause, support through donations, and promote responsible pet ownership.
