At 4:00 PM this Monday, April 6, the Federal Roads and Bridges Agency (CAPUFE) reported that the Córdoba-Veracruz highway, at kilometer 0, had cleared. However, traffic congestion was reported in both directions in the area.

At 10:30 AM this Monday, April 6, a road blockade began in the state of Veracruz by members of the National Transportation Association (ANTAC) and the National Front for the Rescue of the Countryside (FNRCM). This mobilization is taking place nationwide this morning.

In the state of Veracruz, the Córdoba-Veracruz federal highway is currently closed near Rancho Trejo, a town belonging to the municipality of Amatlán de los Reyes, in the central mountainous region of Veracruz.

Initially, it was reported that only a slow march would take place on this road; However, at 10:30 a.m., the protesters positioned their cargo trucks across both lanes of traffic, blocking the passage of vehicles.

So far, this is the only reported closure of this road; however, it is anticipated that they will also block part of Highway 150D Puebla-Orizaba, near Rancho Trejo.

Starting at 9:00 a.m. this Monday, April 6, members of the National Transportation Association (ANTAC) were scheduled to begin blocking highways in different parts of the country, confirmed Yannet Chumacero, Vice President of Communication and Liaison for the movement.

In an interview with Ciro Gómez Leyva, Chumacero explained that, for logistical and security reasons, the blockades, which were initially scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m., will now take place at different times, depending on the region. In the northern region, the protests will begin at 10:00 a.m.

As for the central region, which includes the state of Veracruz, the total road blockades were scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.; however, this was delayed by a little over an hour.

“The only difference is the timing; for example, in the central region, which includes the states of Veracruz, Tlaxcala, and Puebla, we will begin this strike at 9:00 a.m. with a total road closure, while in the northern states, it will begin at 10:00 a.m.,” said the vice president of ANTAC.

She confirmed that members of ANTAC and the National Front for the Rescue of the Countryside (FNRCM) are already mobilizing in some of the 20 states where this mobilization is planned.

“In some places, our colleagues are already gathering for this mobilization that was scheduled for today. We, in alliance with the National Front for the Rescue of the Countryside, have already confirmed participation in 20 states. There were logistical changes due to security concerns, so it will begin between 9 and 10 in the morning,” he said.
