The mayor of Santiago Tuxtla, Noé Domínguez Cadena, a member of the Morena party, was at the center of a scandal in Veracruz that could have ended in tragedy, we’re told. He was seen driving around the state capital with two SUVs full of armed bodyguards. Citizens alerted authorities to the presence of armed men, prompting state and federal police to intercept them. Tensions rose until Mr. Domínguez identified himself and his bodyguards displayed their weapons and permits. Once the initial shock subsided, many wondered what had become of the principles of the current administration (4T) that condemned bodyguards for public officials and the use of public funds for such purposes. Imagine that!
Where “everything is hanging by a thread,” we’re told, is in the negotiations between students and authorities at the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos. Apparently, some officials are interested in continuing the work stoppage, because when classes were scheduled to resume this Monday, university security guards, known as the Venados (Deer), stormed into the Nutrition Faculty to install lights. We’re told that this intrusion led to the suspension of the dialogue, and the Secretary of Government, Edgar Maldonado Ceballos, had to step in to guarantee that no authority would enter the campuses without the movement’s authorization. Ouch!
From Hidalgo, we hear that Senator Simey Olvera Bautista (Morena) seems to have forgotten her political past. On her social media, she shared a message commemorating the 21st anniversary of the impeachment proceedings against the then-Mayor of Mexico City, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, in which she stated that “the old regime tried to bury our movement with a legal trap.” However, netizens pointed out that Ms. Simey had flirted with the PAN party during those years, even raising her hand in support of Xóchitl Gálvez Ruiz, and it wasn’t until 2018 that she joined Morena. Oops!
