The leader of the Veracruz left, Atanasio García Durán, father of former Morena governor Cuitláhuac García Jiménez, launched harsh criticism against the administration of Rocío Nahle García (Morena).

Without mentioning the Morena governor by name, the former federal and state representative, as well as founder of the PRD and Morena parties in Veracruz, denounced the current administration for lacking vision, knowledge of the state, and political will. He also questioned the governor’s background.

“I see a lack of vision regarding what needs to be done,” he stated in an interview at the Legislative Palace.

“Veracruz is, I believe, the richest state in the country, and I don’t see its resources being activated and allocated to what needs to be done, especially now that the debt has been reduced, which makes a big difference,” he added.

García Durán rejected accusations of excessive debt during his son’s administration, arguing that there is a contradictory narrative.

He recalled that at the beginning of García Jiménez’s administration, they inherited liabilities exceeding 100 billion pesos, as well as a treasury with no resources, but a significant reduction in debt was achieved.

“Nothing was left untouched in financial terms, and how was it addressed? Cuts were made, and with the support of the federal government, the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador provided significant support to the state,” he recalled.

“Today, I would say, very favorable conditions exist for the state’s significant development,” he stated.

“And what is lacking? Vision, knowledge of the state, political will?” he was asked.

“All of that, all of that,” he replied.

“Could the fact that someone isn’t originally from Veracruz affect their ability to grasp the scope of what needs to be done?”

“Is it because I’m not from Veracruz?” “Well, when people started saying that, I didn’t believe it, but now I firmly believe it. I mean, there’s a lack of understanding and a lack of vision.”

“Was it a mistake to trust this administration?”

“Well, many people think so, and I agree.”

“And how do the Morena party members see it?”

“Well, we’ll have to see in the polls that are conducted.”

“We had a majority, I don’t know how we’ll fare,” he acknowledged, stating that there is discontent among Morena’s members and warning that this dissatisfaction could be reflected in the polls and the 2027 election results.

“There is discontent against the party,” he added when questioned about the results of last year’s municipal elections, where Morena did not win a majority of mayoral seats.
