In addition to its beaches, the Veracruz–Boca del Río metropolitan area offers history, culture, gastronomy, and architecture that may interest visitors during this vacation period, even if rainy weather occurs, said the president of the Metropolitan Tourism Council (Cometur), Sergio Lois Heredia.
Following weather forecasts predicting rain over the coming days and with the summer vacation period approaching, he commented that although most visitors come to the area for its beaches and events such as Carnival, Salsa Fest, and others, there are also many other attractions worth exploring.
13 Museums and Experiences to Enjoy in Veracruz Even When It Rains
He highlighted that on a rainy day in the metropolitan area, visitors can tour some of the 13 registered museums, including nine in Veracruz and four in Boca del Río, where they can learn about the history of Veracruz and its historical achievements.
Some of the museums include:
- Naval Museum
- Wax Museum and Ripley’s Museum, located inside the Aquarium
- Salvador Díaz Mirón House Museum
- Reforma Museum
- Benito Juárez House Museum
- San Juan de Ulúa Fortress Local Museum
Meanwhile, Boca del Río is home to:
- Agustín Lara Museum
- Pirate Museum
- Patria y Libertad Museum
- Coin Museum
“We are a very complete destination, not just a beach destination. That is our tradition, but we also have history, culture, folklore, modernity, gastronomy, museums, and attractions that not every destination has. Places with museums often don’t have beaches, while we have both,” he said.
The local gastronomy is also an important attraction that can be of great interest to tourists.
Expectations for the Summer Vacation Season
Regarding the upcoming summer vacation period, the hotel entrepreneur commented that expectations are high because it is the longest vacation season of the year, extending from mid-July until the end of August.
The goal for this year is to reach a 70% hotel occupancy rate in order to recover after a difficult start to the year, as the first three months were particularly challenging.
“We have had a difficult year overall. The first three months were terrible, with figures we had not experienced since 2020 and 2021,” he said.
He acknowledged that after Holy Week, the situation began to improve, and they recently reported strong occupancy numbers during the Salsa Fest.
He expressed confidence that there will be extensive tourism promotion to attract more visitors to Veracruz.
