The municipal government of Boca del Río has launched a strict enforcement campaign targeting neglected vacant lots and abandoned properties, granting property owners a firm 15-day window to clean and condition their lands following official notification.
City authorities announced that more than 30 owners of unkempt lots filled with overgrown weeds and accumulated trash have already been formally notified as part of an ongoing strategy to improve urban aesthetics, security, and public health in response to neighborhood complaints. Officials noted that tracking down property owners via the municipal cadaster register poses a significant initial challenge, but once located, residents must clear their properties within the stipulated 15-day timeframe.
Failure to comply with the municipal requirement triggers fiscal enforcement procedures, resulting in administrative penalties and economic fines scaled according to the property’s size and the duration of the neglect. While the recent Santa Ana festivities temporarily delayed operations, the administration has around 40 to 50 additional notices pending delivery across various neighborhoods.
Local authorities emphasized that successful interventions have already been carried out on major thoroughfares like Palmeras and Texcoco avenues where owners cooperated. The municipal government intends to maintain rigorous oversight against urban decay, expanding enforcement actions to address other public space nuisances such as irregular mechanical workshops and abandoned vehicles obstructing public roads.
