In the Los Tuxtlas region, honey is part of an activity that is passed down through generations, evolves, and finds new ways to reach people. This is the case of Raymundo Montalvo and his wife, Eva María, producers from Hueyapan de Ocampo who, for more than 20 years, have turned beekeeping into a family activity and a source of income.

From the honey they collect, the family has developed a variety of products, including soaps, ointments, syrups, propolis, and beverages such as mead, with different combinations of fruits and spices.

“Honey is the foundation, and mead, which they say is the drink of the Vikings. We began making these beverages and later learned how to make them dry, fruity, and with spices,” he explained.

For Raymundo, taking these products beyond their place of origin is also a way to showcase the richness and diversity of Veracruz. For this reason, participating in events such as the 2026 Sea Festival allows them to reach new audiences, promote their work, and expand their marketing opportunities.

“We come to every event we are invited to, with great pleasure and pride, to showcase what Veracruz produces. At these events, we promote our work, and afterward we go somewhere, set up a small shop or sales center, and offer what we make there,” he shared.

Like this family, exhibitors from different parts of the state are participating in the pavilion installed along Manuel Ávila Camacho Boulevard, next to the Hemiciclo a los Niños Héroes, where they make a variety of handmade products and foods available to the public.

“It is a great success, and we hope it continues, because this allows us to promote our products in different places,” he concluded.
