Just in time for the international day of love. 100,000 condoms are being given out in Mexico City on Thursday (February 13) as part of the city’s new safe sex campaign ahead of Valentine’s Day.
The free condoms were handed out at the capital’s bustling metro stations in a bid to raise awareness on sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Although condoms are given out for free at public health facilties across Mexico, the use of contraception is still considered taboo amongst many in the conservative Catholic country.
But in liberal Mexico City, residents young and old welcomed the initiative.
Valentine’s Day was chosen as the date to march International Condom Day, highlighting the use of the contraception as the most effective way to prevent the tranmission of STIs.
