Veracruz, Mexico (December 29th, 2021) — José Manuel N, who used to be the technical secretary of the Presidency of the Senate Political Coordination Board has been arrested for homicide.
The Attorney General of the State of Veracruz reported that José Manuel “N”, technical secretary of the Presidency of the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo) of the Senate of the Republic, was detained on homicide charges.
The suspect was arrested for his alleged involvement in the murder of Rene Tovar Tovar, a candidate for mayor of the municipality of Cazones, in the state of Veracruz.
Tovar was shot to death outside his home, on the night of June 4th, 2021, just two days before the elections.
José Manuel N is a technical secretary for Presidencia de la Junta de Coordinación Política (Jucopo) of the Senado of the República. The elected mayor of the municipality, Omar Ramirez, was also arrested for his alleged involvement in the death of Tovar Tovar.
Ramirez was arrested in June of 2021, for his possible participation in the murder of mayoral candidate Rene Tovar, for the same office. After Tovar’s murder, Ramírez was named as his replacement. Until then, he worked as the campaign manager for Tovar.
On June 6, he won the vote and later received a majority confirmation by the local electoral body, which made him the elected mayor of the municipality of Cazones, Veracruz.
