If the passenger train returns, Veracruz would be among the chosen ones

One of the routes that Grupo México seeks to obtain is the one from Mexico-Veracruz-Coatzacoalcos, one of the most important ones

After 28 years, the passenger train could pass through the central area of the state again, since of the six concessions that Grupo México wants to obtain, one is the route from Mexico-Veracruz-Coatzacoalcos.

And it is that after the Government of Mexico announced the intention to resume the passenger train in some areas of the country, the railway companies Grupo México and Kansas City Southern showed their interest in obtaining eight routes.

How many route concessions for the passenger train would the SICT be offering

According to information from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) Grupo México has been interested in six routes, while Kansas City Southern has requested only two, mainly from the north of the country.

One of the routes that Grupo México seeks to obtain, highlights the one from Mexico – Veracruz – Coatzacoalcos, one of the most important at the national level and that stopped transporting passengers in the year of 1995, three years after they were granted by the Federal Government.

It is worth remembering that the Mexico-Veracruz railway route is the oldest since it was the first to be implemented in the country 150 years ago and it was the one that allowed a large part of the development of the central area of the country, including Córdoba, in the last decade of 1800 and the first decade of 1900.

Other routes that Grupo México seeks to obtain are:

Mexico-Queretaro-Leon-Aguascalientes

Manzanillo-Colima-Guadalajara-Irapuato

Mexico-Queretaro-Guadalajara-Tepic-Mazatlan-Nogales

Aguascalientes-Chihuahua-Ciudad Juarez

Queretaro-San Luis Potosi-Monterrey-Nuevo Laredo.

While Kansas City Southern is interested in two routes:

Mexico-Queretaro

Queretaro-San Luis Potosi-Monterrey-Nuevo Laredo

The aforementioned routes are those proposed by the Government of Mexico to reactivate in a first stage.

The companies Grupo México and Kansas City Southern presented their intention to obtain the concessions before January 15 of this year and are waiting for the corresponding awards to come out from there to determine the next processes before resuming activities.

It is worth remembering that the passenger train was one of the main means of transportation of the population for more than a century, since it was launched and until it ceased to operate in its entirety in 1999 after being granted by the Federal Government.
