This Saturday, more than 800,000 residents of the metropolitan area of Veracruz and municipalities such as La Antigua and Actopan reported power outages.
In some cases, the service was restored after 10 minutes, in others it has been almost an hour without power.
The municipalities most affected by the lack of electricity were Veracruz, Boca del Río, Medellín de Bravo and Alvarado in the northern area.
In the municipal seat of Alvarado, there have been power cuts and variations for three weeks, which prevent the operation of electrical appliances such as fans or simple blenders.
In the case of the metropolitan area, the power outage was reported in both neighborhoods and housing units and subdivisions.
Why did the mega power outage occur?
The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) reported that the power outage this Saturday affected five municipalities due to a failure at the Veracruz 2 Transmission substation.
The company indicated that it has not yet determined what caused the failure that left “478 thousand users” of the municipalities of Alvarado, Boca del Río, Veracruz, Emiliano Zapata and Xalapa without service.
In its statement, the CFE did not mention the blackouts reported by users in Medellín de Bravo, Actopan and La Antigua. Initially, the CFE attributed the blackout to acts of vandalism at its facilities on JB Lobos Avenue in Veracruz.
However, it later clarified that the problem was due to an impact on the Veracruz 2 substation, located on Framboyanes Avenue, in the Valente Díaz neighborhood, in the southwest of the city.
The power shortage caused internet, cell phone and traffic light failures in the metropolitan area. In addition, drinking water companies suspended their activities. Fortunately, service has now been restored.
