Veracruz highway to be closed for rehabilitation work; which road is being closed and what days will it be?

Rehabilitation work on the old highway to Minatitlán, known as Canticas, continues in the southern part of the state of Veracruz. Although only partial closures have been reported so far, it was announced this week that it will be closed for two days.

The work began a few months ago by the federal government’s Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) and includes the rehabilitation and expansion to four lanes of the section from Canticas Airport to the entrance to Coatzacoalcos.

Work continues to progress, and a statement was issued announcing this total closure, which will affect hundreds of drivers and airport users.

What days will the highway be closed?

The SICT announced the total closure to vehicular traffic on September 6 and 7 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The agency indicated that the Minatitlán-Canticas-Coatzacoalcos section will remain closed, so airport users must take the appropriate measures.

“The existing beams will be dismantled and removed, and the new beams will be unloaded and stored for the bridge’s reconstruction.

“These works are highly difficult, given that there is only one lane on the right side to accommodate the cranes that will perform the maneuvers,” the report states.

What are the alternate routes?

David Coronel Toledo, administrator of the Cánticas Airport, mentioned that information has already been disseminated to the entire community so they can take the necessary precautions when traveling to this airport.

It is worth mentioning that the only alternate route to Coatzacoalcos from Minatitlán and vice versa is the Las Matas Highway, so drivers are advised to exercise extreme caution.

Although the closure will be on a weekend, heavy traffic is expected on this section of highway, so drivers are asked to take into account the delays this may cause when traveling on this road.
