After former marine Fernando Farías was captured in Argentina, political analysts have called on the Milei administration to consider extraditing him to the United States, given the risk that he could disappear or be hidden in Mexico due to the information he possesses regarding corruption within López Obrador’s political group.

Rear Admiral Fernando Farías Laguna admitted before an Argentine judge that he is the person sought by the Mexican government in connection with the fuel theft case at maritime customs.

For nearly an hour, the nephew-in-law of José Rafael Ojeda Durán, former Secretary of the Navy during Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s presidency, appeared before Judge Julián Ercolini of the Federal Criminal and Correctional Court No. 12, who called a recess in the hearing that began at 3:00 p.m., Mexico City time.

According to the Mendieta & Associates law firm, which is handling the marine’s defense in Mexico, during the proceedings the judge verified the identity of Farías Lagunas, who acknowledged being the person wanted by Interpol and the Attorney General’s Office.

Subsequently, according to information provided by the law firm Mendieta y Asociados, Judge Julián Ercolini notified the rear admiral that he is subject to an Interpol red notice and an extradition request from the Mexican government for his alleged involvement in organized crime related to hydrocarbon theft.

At the time, Farías Lagunas requested asylum, stating that he fears for his life if transferred to Mexico, where he believes there are no guarantees of a fair trial.

According to the consulted law firm, the Argentine judge notified the rear admiral that criminal proceedings will be initiated against him for illegally entering Argentina and for using falsified documents.
